We have known Jessica Fisher for about 7 years and she has assisted us with her professionalism and experience in many areas, many times.

Our relationship began around 2003 when my daughter was about 5 years old and Jessica taught her to ride along with basic stable management. As she grew and was ready for her own pony, Jessica sourced the ‘perfect’ first pony for my daughter (she had a bad experience on a pony belonging to a friend who turned out to be dangerous and totally knocked her confidence). Jessica found a pony who was a perfect match for my daughter and fully restored her confidence, giving her two happy years of pony ownership and experience until he sadly died.

We once again asked Jessica for her help to find another ‘perfect’ pony and she immediately located just what we needed. This pony is the exact size needed for our ever-growing daughter, small enough for her to handle at the moment but big enough to last her forever more. She is not fully broken-in and Jessica is currently giving both the pony and my daughter lessons to make her into exactly what my daughter wants.

We would have no hesitation in buying more ponies from Jessica should we ever want others and I highly recommend her to any friends who wish to buy ponies/horses or need any advice, assistance or teaching. I have always felt Jessica has a kind of ‘Horse Whisperer’ aura about her and she seems able to communicate with the animals in a way I have not seen before. She has a good eye for the type of pony she is looking for to suit the person it is meant for, and I have complete faith in Jessica that she would not allow anyone to take a horse/pony that is not suited for them.

Over the time we have known Jessica, we have seen her with many different animals from chickens to horses. They all seem to relate to her immediately. She has such a calming effect, giving confidence to any animal. She has cared for our varied pets while we were away including our ‘house’ rabbit and tortoise and two cats, all of whom were well cared for and happy on our return.

I used to ride at Shipmeadow equestrian centre, where Jes taught me for many years, from walking to jumping, etc. Jes has helped me through a lot with the horses, when I first had Pip as my first own pony to look after, he needed a lot of schooling and a strong handler. He had a habit of bucking when getting on, and with Jes’s help I went from not being able to get on him, to jumping him up to 2ft3. I used to fall off a few times, and be terrified to catch Pip, then Jes gave me some tips, and encouraged me every time I came off, and was scared about riding. My riding used to go downhill rather a lot, my main objective was to just get on pip, let alone practicing my position. Since Jes has helped me, my riding has just gone up and up, and without her teaching and skills, I wouldn’t be as confident and as good as I am now. I really do think Jes is an amazing teacher, and helper with horses, and I’m so thankful to her for getting me this far.

Not so long ago I bought a horse. He was advertised as being suitable for a novice, but he wasn’t! He was very good to ride (once you got on him) but he had very real handling problems on the ground and wasn’t at all happy being kept on his own. When he threatened to escape from the field Jes rescued me and took him on at a moment’s notice. She was very patient with him, and me, even when he jumped out of paddocks, broke down fences and made a fuss about not being kept with special friends. She encouraged me and helped me to look after him until he could be sold on to someone more experienced. I learned a lot while he was at her yard and, though I have decided that horse keeping is not for me, I am still enjoying riding.

I have known Jessica for about 6 years. She ran the riding stables where I, and my daughter learned to ride. More than the skills and knowledge she gave us, she showed us how to think into the perspective of each horse we worked with. Jessica’s work with animals demonstrates her sensitivity, respect and caring for all living things. No animal is too small or insignificant to Jessica. Animals and animal welfare are hugely important to her, and she uses her energies effectively to advocate for their health, well being and maintenance.

As an instructor Jessica is kind and considerate to both horse and rider. Whilst teaching riders who are nervous or lack confidence Jessica is always understanding and sympathetic to the feelings of the individual, helping to build their own confidence, as well as the trust between them and their horse. Her friendly nature makes a lesson from Jessica a pleasant experience from which you are able to come away with the feeling of achievement and pride, whilst her knowledge of the equine world makes lessons for even the more experienced rider an exciting opportunity.

Jessica carries her kind and understanding nature through to the care of all animals, treating all animals with the respect that they deserve. Her high standards of care cannot be faulted, along with the time and patience she shows when faced with problems. Jessica is a pleasure to be around, both in a working environment and as an instructor.

I started riding when I was about 9 years old. When I first started I knew nothing about horses, but as soon as Jes began my first lesson I started to learn the basics and the position of my seat and lots more. As time went by I learned more and more about horses and riding, and after a few years of learning I finished riding at Jes’s and luckily got my own horse, but as time went by I got too big for my horse and he went else wear.

That is when I went back to riding at Jes’s and helping her out, she gave a me and a friend a few lessons on two of her horses. Through the time that I had stopped riding at Jes’s I had lost my seat position. During that lesson she corrected it and by the end I had reached my goal of correcting my seat.

I have enjoyed the lessons that Jes has taught me, and have learned a lot from them, Jessica’s lessons were always a joy to be in, she made me very comfortable when I was riding. I hope to keep having lessons from Jes and to get better at riding. Jes has been like a big sister to me, she has helped me so much with my riding and my horses that I have had and I thank her for all that she has done for me.

I first came to Jes two years ago as a very nervous and novice rider and through her guidance and patience she has brought me through my nerves and has taught me to ride to a good level. When I first came to Jes for help I couldn’t even walk into a field with horses without feeling very nervous. Jes spent her time with me showing me how to handle and care for horses and also helping me understand the behaviour of horses, and now I own my own horse and my daughter has a pony. I tack up daily for my hack, canter on stubble fields with confidence and have started jumping. Now I feel owning my horse and riding is the most rewarding thing in my life.

It was a dream come true to finally be able to buy my own horse at the age of 30, so when Cara became very ill after only 3 weeks I was devastated. The vet couldn’t really diagnose the problem, she was un-coordinated, her hind legs kept giving way, she struggled to get up and lost the sight in one eye. The vet recommended euthanasia and I really couldn’t see an alternative, but I wanted to give her more time to see what would happen. She was treated with steroids and eventually stabilised, but wouldn’t go into a stable and I couldn’t go on her blind side to do up her rug or pick out her feet. As a novice horse owner I found it really hard to cope but Jes was fantastic, so supportive. She made me realise that there was hope for Cara to have a good quality of life even if I couldn’t ride her and began working with her, and me. She built her confidence and tolerance for things which frightened her, and taught me techniques like join-up to build a bond with her. Eventually we decided to try riding her, with Jes getting on first because I was too scared! We progressed to hacking out, again with Jes riding Cara and me on a quiet horse until I was confident to try myself. Jes always encouraged but never pushed and was endlessly patient with both me and Cara. I am now hacking her out alone, doing a little jumping and have even done an in-hand showing class. I can’t believe how much we have progressed, but without Jes I don’t think Cara would be with me, or even still alive.
